You will love Cuba. The beauty, the old Spanish architecture, the artistic talent in the markets, the musical talent on every corner, the warmth of the Cuban people made feel good. The poverty did not.
The colours are striking, that’s true. What gets me, is the deeper story. The arthritic hand drawing, telling the story of age being defiant – still insisting on creating beauty despite life’s experiences. The bangles – who gave them? when? does she smile when they tinkle as the hand moves? The repeated eyes looking at the lens, daring you to see more. And the fine-tipped pen adding the last touches, like an unavoidable reality waiting to be born. This isn’t a photo, Harold. This is the story of life… Great one!
Thank you CKPonderings. On a warm, humid afternoon I wandered through an outdoor market outside of Havana. Amazing talent abounded everywhere. Raw! Undiscovered! Mr. SLR Nikon’s eye was drawn to this Cuban artist focused and lost in her world of creativity with brush and pen. A soft, casual hello. A warm smile. A slow wink. We became the best of friends for a few moments as Mr. SLR captured the delicious moments.
Nice reading about you
