About Harold.
Harold’s Creative Journey: I love exploring different cultures of our world with my wife Rita, my dear friend Mr. SLR Nikon, his brother Mr. Pen Pal.
I try to tell a story through images and words that bring back the human interest and overlaying rich textures of a different country’s lifestyle.
To capture a moment in time as I float down a river, walk a mud-street village, hike a sand dune at sunrise, stroll up a jungle trail or cruise through the workshop of a regional craftsman, is a pleasure and a dream.
It is a joy of mine to share these images with children and young students in hopes that my images will inspire a few of them to travel and explore other cultures of the world with an open mind.
I am a professional photojournalist. My traveling sidekick is Mr. SLR Nikon and his gear bag full of camera goodies. As a “realist photographer”, I do not manipulate my images. I perform my minor post production in Lightroom. I do not have Photoshop on my Mac.
I am now retired and live in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico with my wife.
During my career I owned a large advertising/marketing/public relations agency in Houston, Texas. I launched my 25-year professional career as the agency’s primary writer and Creative Director.
Upon retirement, in 1989, I moved full-time to the island of Martha’s Vineyard before moving to Mexico in 2001.
I was born in upstate New York in the small town of Auburn on the Finger Lakes and attended The Northwood Preparatory School in Lake Placid, New York.
My degree from the University of Florida is in Advertising and Marketing..
The inspiration for my love of photography came from my father, who was an amateur photographer. As a young child, I spent many hours in his darkroom helping him hang black & white prints with clothes pins.
Interested in taking a journey?
You are invited to join my trusty sidekick, Mr. SLR Nikon, his brother Mr. Pen Pal and I on our “Nikon Train of Travels”.
Harold,
I love your what you have captured from Greece. I went there almost two years ago and visited my grandmother’s village. I was caught by surprise at how moved I was by the history, the beauty of country and the heart of the people. You have shown all that in your photos! And once again I am moved and compelled to return. One more year and I will go again and hopefully for an extended stay. I enjoyed Greece again through your lens. Thank you.

Hi Harold, I have nominated you for The Creative Blogger Award ! I bet you are quivering in excitement… or perhaps you might be hitting your head against a wall repeating the phrase “Not another award, not another award!” You don’t have to accept this award, but I would love for you to pop over to my blog and come celebrate! There will be imaginary champagne, disco balls and a drumming cat! What more could one want? Hehe.

Our feelings are mutual. I too look forward to exploring your interest and love of the B&W image. I spend so much time with my gear that they have become my friends rather than a tool of of the trade. So, I just had to give them names.

That’s neat Harold. I just have a bunch of tools that I choose for the job at hand. I always buy used and might change on a whim. However, I do enjoy your…hmmm relationship with the photo equipment you use. When I first read your words about the “team” I thought. Hmm, this guy is gonna be worth reading and watching!

Hello newest Spikey! I know, a bit corny, eh, but that’s the term that has come to stick for those folk who are part of the clan known to be followers of Uncle Spike 🙂
Thank you… I really appreciate that as I for one, know how many interesting and entertaining blogs are out there.
My aim is to deliver an eclectic offering of posts, from my ‘point n shoot’ attempts at basic photography, to the sharing of my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day to day happenings here on the farm. Oh, plus a few observations on life as I see it, thrown in for good measure.
My promise to you is not to be overbearing, just a couple of posts a day, maybe 3 at weekends if I have something special to share. But if you are at a loose end one day, maybe you’ll enjoy trawling through some of my older stuff too. I have added plenty of categories to help in said digging process.
Thanks again and hope you have a great day…
