Martha’s Vineyard. “Birth Of Dawn”

Martha’s Vineyard
Through Harold’s Lens:

Long before the birth of dawn
Slowly
Emerging from black.

Rising yellows
Surfacing oranges
Bursting blues.

I open my salt rusted door
Creak
Squeak
Old, trashed Jeep
Rusty’s his name.

Sling tackle box in
Sling waders in
Sling cooler in
Nestle fly rod carefully on tattered wool sweaters.

During the birth of dawn
Dew blanket
Smothers all.

Robins chirp
Their morning welcome.

Worms wiggle
Pedals unfold
Color abounds.

Soft yellow light
Pops from windows
Weathered shingled cottages.

Waves of hot coffee waft
Through dense mist.

Me
With solo beach time
With waves
With wet sand
With whipping fly rod

With enjoyment
With tranquility
With purity
With peace

With a nibble
With a bite
With a tug
With a large striped bass

After the birth of dawn
Sun shines
Shadows flow.
Island alive
Folks everywhere.

Forty pound striper
Bled out
Gutted
Fillet.

Grilled feast tonight!
Another day on my special island.

“Rowdy Old Bottle Bar”

ARGENTINA Through Harold’s Lens:

The joint’s been quiet for 3 hours.

Exit was an inebriated mass.

Sloshes of beer lay soaked in mops
Old oak tables upturned
Broken chairs stacked in trash cans
Sharp broken glass swept into dust pans
Whift of rancid sweat hung in the corners
The stink of warm booze hung everywhere.

14 large screen tv’s
All black.

Boca Juniors victory in futbol
Only matched by its raucous fans.

As Argentina’s most internationally famous professional team, the team’s fame is matched by its rowdy fans. At La Bombonera stadium these crazy Boca Fans are nicknamed La Doce. The 12th player because of their loud and distracting presence.

The large fan base of these hooligans number 60,000+. There are only 49,000 seats in the famed La Bombonera stadium.

On game day, thousands of energetic La Doce pour into bars. The bars pour back. Chants echo off walls. Drums pound. Flags wave. Packed bars going bananas.

It’s Boca Juniors game day!

“Deep Faith”

MEXICO Through Harold’s Lens:

In the small, rural community of Atotonilco, the afternoon’s quiet receding sun casts its faith onto the rich Mexican Baroque mural work of the Chapel of the Holy Burial in the Sanctuary of Jesús Nazareno de Atotonilco.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site just outside the town of San Miguel de Allende.

“House Of Worship”

MEXICO Through Harold’s Lens:

Dusk settles in on De La Parroquia de San Pedro Apostol, the 400 year old main church in Mineral de Pozos.

The magical abandoned silver mining town of Pozos, with its uncommon beauty in the high chapparral desert of Central Mexico, is experiencing a large resurgence of interest, particularly as an art and artisan’s community.
